Questions

Is the first click always safe?

Yes. The mines are placed after your first click, and never on that square or the eight squares around it, so the first click always opens an area.

What are the difficulty levels?

Beginner is 9 × 9 with 10 mines, Intermediate is 16 × 16 with 40 mines and Expert is 30 × 16 with 99 mines. With Custom you choose the number of rows, columns and mines yourself.

How do I place a flag on a phone?

Press and hold a square for a moment, or turn on Flag mode below the board so that a tap places a flag instead of opening the square.

What is chording?

When a number already has the same number of flags around it, click (or tap) the number to open all its other neighbours at once. It saves a lot of clicks. Read more on the strategy page.

Where are my best times saved?

In your own browser, on this device. There is no account and nothing is sent to us.

What is the daily board?

One 16 × 16 board with 40 mines that is the same for everyone on the same day. It changes at midnight UTC. Every daily board is checked by our solver so it can be cleared with logic, without guessing. Play today’s board.

Can I use it in class on a projector?

Yes. Press Classroom mode for big, high-contrast squares in full screen. Press Esc or the button again to leave.
